I wanted the bike to look slim and compact
and the single sided swingarm gave the perfect opportunity for a
2-1 system. Like most things nothing was available off the shelf
so I decided to make my own exhaust.
Having only ever gas and MIG welded I
decided it was the perfect excuse to buy my own inverter TIG
welder and with a couple of hours tuition of a local welder on
his 3-phase machine I was ready to teach myself......
I bought the tube and mandrel bends but
had the Y piece pre made with the order. I made the front spigot
and flange from 316 Stainless aswell as the spring hoops.
I like the look of neat TIG welds and
decided not to grind away the welds but leave them exposed.
The whole system was buffed in 3 stages
on my bench grinder, a job I would very reluctantly do again,
the fluff and muck gets everywhere.
I based the header sizes on the M4
System, 1.75" enlarging to 2" then merged the two into 2.5". I
had a silencer custom made as 2.5" bore is hard to find.
Unfortunately the carbon sleeve lasted all of 10 miles, so that
was replaced with a Ti Sleeve.
The silencer is 500mm long yet still
incredibly loud, so much so that I continuously run with a DB
killer in it !
