I chose the Triumph 955i swing arm for 3
reasons, firstly it was almost identical in length and therefore
kept the same wheelbase as stock, secondly the shock hole was
perfect for the rear cylinder exhaust and thirdly Ducati wheels
fit the same hub/peg assembly which meant I could junk the ugly
955 3-SpokeUnfortunately the
Triumph arm is very wide and only just squeezed between the TLS
frame sides. The arm had to be skimmed on both sides and the
bearing tube shortened etc. The frame had to have the bosses
reduced to almost flush and a threaded boss machined for the
right side to add back strength and provide the correct bore for
the Triumph spindle. The left side just needed a large disc to
partially fill the outside frame recess.
Machining the frame after the removal of
the bosses proved to be a headache as there was no way of
getting a milling facing cutter or even a slot mill across the
face of the reduced frame boss. Finally I made a fly cutter and
a few bushes as well as a depth stop that could be increased a
few thou at a time to prevent an uneven surface.
